Your usage of the semicolon here is not really correct. There are two ways you could write this: as two sentences, or a single sentence with a comma instead of a semicolon.
"Immigration brought many financial and emotional struggles, however it also brought countless opportunities, such as the chance to earn a graduate degree."
"Immigration brought many financial and emotional struggles. Nevertheless, it also brought countless opportunities, and the chance to earn a graduate degree at X is certainly one of them."
Semicolons are used to join two separate clauses, however the meaning behind your sentence would be better expressed in one of these two forms.
