If a friend is in pre-algebra, and my other friend is in algebra 1, then does that mean that my friend in pre-algebra is behind?

It could mean the one in Algebra 1 is ahead or that the one in pre-Algebra is better at something other than math. It could mean that they aren't in the same grade. It could mean a lot of things.
