Question

a rock group plans to travel for a total of 26 weeks, making three concert stops. they will be in japan for 6 more weeks than they will be in australia. their stay in sweeden will 4 weeks shorter than that in autralia. how many weeks will they be in each country?

Let 'x' be the number of weeks the rock band stays in Australia.  So....

x + 6 = number of weeks spent in Japan

x - 4 = number of weeks spent in Sweden

 

Beginning equation:  x + (x + 6) + (x - 4) = 26

                              x + x + x + 6 - 4 = 26

                              3x + 2 = 26

                              Subtract 2 from each side

                              3x = 24

                              Divide each side by 3

                              x = 8

8 weeks in Australia, so 14 weeks in Japan and 4 weeks in Sweden, a total of 26 weeks
