What you will need pre-algebra for depends on what you intend to do as you go forward in life.
If you intend to enter college, like it or not, you will need to take some math courses for which you will need concepts in algebra. Certainly if you intend to pursue a career in science, engineering, computers or technology, you will need algebra and a lot more math!
In business you will sometimes find algebra concepts useful (e.g. a basic understanding of compound interest) and similarly if you intend to do some forms of construction. Generally speaking an understanding of algebra (even if you don't learn the nitty-gritty) can be useful, especially a basic understanding of probability.. Every educated person should have some understanding of the mathematical logic which underlies algebra.
If you don't intend to pursue your education beyond high school, basic understanding of algebraic concepts may still serve you well.
If you ask the question because you either think that it is boring or too difficult, you are wrong...unless you refuse to apply yourself.
