Connor Pool filling

Connor is filling a 15 gallon wading pool. On his first trip, he carried 3 1/13 gallons of water. He carried 3 5/6 on his second trip and 3 1/2 on his third trip. Suppose he carried 5 gallons on his next trip. Will the pool be filled? Explain.

3 and 1/13 + 3 and 5/6 + 3 and 1/2 + 5 =

(3 + 3 + 3 + 5) + (1/13 + 5/6 + 1/2) =

14 + (1/13 + 5/6 + 1/2)

But, 5/6 + 1/2 = 5/6 + 3/6 = 8/6 = 4/3 = 1 and 1/3

so the pool has AT LEAST 14 + 1 and 1/3 = 15 and 1/3

actually 15 and 1/3 + 1/13,

so yes it is full
