According to intersectionality theory, African-American women are at a minimum, doubly or triply-oppressed compared to other social and cultural groups in society. This is because, first, African-American women are people of color rather than white; second, because African-American women are women rather than men; and third--arguably--because African-American women are Black as opposed to members of a different, less-oppressed group amongst people of color. Several forms of intersectionality theory argue that African-Americans are the most oppressed racial group, more than many other groups of people of color.
