In regard to the Constitution:
1) Conflicts over the Legislature--representation of states based by their population or 1 per state
Answer--Great Compromise--2 house legislature--lower house based on state's population; higher house would get 2 Senators per state.
2) Slaves and Taxation
Answer 3/5 Compromise--each slave counts as 3/5 of a person to determine state population for purposes of representation in the House of Representatives and for direct taxation.
International slave trade could not be banned until 1808
No tax on exports--South was dependent on trade with Britain and Europe and was cash poor.
3) President--Should the president be directly elected or indirectly elected? Could the people be depended on to elect such a powerful person or should more knowledgeable delegates be designated to elect the president? Decision--Indirect election by Electoral College. Each state got the number of delegates = to the number of Representatives it had in Congress and the Senate, so that smaller population states would have a bigger role in selecting a president.

The founding fathers were the drafters of the constitution. You might find this page helpful. https://www.loc.gov/exhibits/creating-the-united-states/convention-and-ratification.html You need to recall that during this time there was a lot of conflict with the Articles of Confederation. The states had too much power and the federal government not enough. I would consider that they needed to compormise and debate and come to a resolution about all the issues above.03/08/19
