I'm an experienced, retired New York City public high school teacher. I've taught AP United States and European History, and have been a table reader for both exams--I've actually graded the essays for the College Board. This experience gives me a broader insight into the tests and how to prepare for them than many other teachers. I have also taught regular Regents level courses in United States History and Government and Global History and Geography. My test results have been excellent! ...

Right now, because the Covid crisis will require some online or distance learning, having a tutor to help students with online assignments and keeping them on task can be very helpful as parents either return to work or have to focus on working from home. Besides the academic advantages, there is also the reduction in stress at home that one might want to consider.
I have also taught numerous electives, such as Participation in Government, Financial Literacy, and several law courses (I'm a member of the New York State Bar, but I no longer practice law). I emphasize study skills, literacy, essay writing, and content mastery as keys to academic success. I believe that there are several keys to academic success: a student's desire to succeed, a firm foundation in study skills, literacy, and support from parents and teachers. Content knowledge mastery will result from all of these.
**Please also note that due to travel and time restrictions, I cannot accept appointments in Nassau County, Queens, Brooklyn, nor in New Jersey nor Rockland County. Also, I do not tutor Economics nor AP World History.**

Knowledgeable and patient
My son was struggling with APUSH from the start of the school year. He was barely getting Cs. With Kenneth's tutoring once a week he slowly gained confidence in the subject and with lesson recordings that he can review on his own his grade steadly went up and stayed up. Now to my surprise my son confidently says history is one of his favorite subject. He actively tries to keep up with current affairs and we sometimes have discussions on the dinner table about it, thanks to Kenneth. I highly recommend Kenneth to a student who's struggling with APUSH.Joy, 22 lessons with Kenneth

Extremely knowledgeable and patient.
Matthew learned a great deal from his Global History session with Kenneth. He took the time to explain the most important facts about World War 1 and World War 11. Kenneth also provided Matthew with resources and study skills to use in between their sessions. He is a great tutor!Matthew, 1 lesson with Kenneth
Very knowledgeable and inspiring teacher
During the worst pandemic timing in winter of 2020, my son’s phobia about social studies has risen to the peak, and he deliberately missed six assignments and got an F in Nov. This was not the first time he has done this to this subject in his middle school life. I finally decided to find a tutor to help him. However, in such a severe circumstance, how can I find a suitable tutor for him? Since his school has been conducting online learning for a while, and he was old enough, I decided to try online tutoring services. This was how I found Wyzant. It didn’t take me too much time to screen for 5 candidates to contact. I ended up having trials with 3 tutors. And after discussion with my son, we finalized to be Ken. We both feel more confident about Ken’s teaching experience and knowledge, and also his communication and organization skills. I have to say, some tutors do have a fancy background or teaching experience, but for online learning, we need more than that to be effective in learning. So very soon I decided to dedicate two sessions to being Ken per week, and has continued for more than half a year until his eighth grade is about to end these days. The amazing part about Ken is he converted my son’s phobia into passion. My son’s social studies’ grades moved up to A in less than a month. He not only finished the assignments early but also became the “MVP” of the team in the group projects(by his terminology). One great “side effect” is that my son’s science subject also improved. He has been fine with science but never got 103% this kind of over-the-par score. I think it should be because the research and thinking skills Ken has taught him was applied to his science studies. Both my son and I feel so pitiful that we need to pause with Ken for some time because my son is entering high school and there is no history subject in the first year. But we are hoping to continue with Ken afterwards in some other subjects. I strongly believe that Ken will give my son the best guidance in any subject. Finally, one thing I want to emphasize is that my son studies in the best middle school in the Cupertino school district, and Cupertino has been well-known on the top in California. The high school he will join is also well-known in the Bay Area. The school environment is very competitive.Shihling, 52 lessons with Kenneth
