In 1906, there was a riot in Atlanta, Georgia in which armed white mobs smarts led African Americans. It began at night on 9/22/1906 and last for two days. The governor had to call in the Georgia national guard to stop the rioting.
White leaders thought they were protecting women by engaging in the race riots because of several newspaper reports that four white women were allegedly raped by African American men. There was also increasing racial tension, a rapidly growing and changing city, hard competition for jobs and housing and political power struggles.
