Your looking for the point where the Cost to Buy is less than the cost of the rental times the number of visits. To do this you set the numbers equal to each other.
$360 = $40(X-1)
$360 = $40X - 40
$360 + $40 = $40X
$400 = $40X
1/$40*400=X
10=X
Note: I used (x-1) to show that you need to go one more time than break even to have the purchase price be less than renting. You could also omit the (X-1) and add 1 more trip at the end of the equation to account for the extra visit needed.
