On a recent test, Jeremy wrote the equation x^2 - 16 /x - 4 =+4 . Which of the following statements is correct about the equation?

A. The equation is always true, except when x=4.

B. The equation is always true.

C. The equation is never true

D. The equation is sometimes true when x=4.

Hi Gina,

            If you are considering only real numbers the above equation has one real root and is therefor only "true" for x approx equal to 3.5386.... so I would say none of the choices apply. I'm not even sure what choice D means?

           Are you sure the equation is correctly typed?
