This statement is true!
The stages of mitosis are prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase, and cytokinesis. In meiotic cell division, however, the stages are prophase 1, metaphase 1, anaphase 1, telophase 1, cytokinesis -- which gives us two daughter cells -- prophase 2, metaphase 2, anaphase 2, telophase 2, cytokinesis -- which gives us four granddaughter cells. Altogether, the process takes us from one diploid cell (which is sometimes notated as "2n") to four haploid cells (sometimes notated as "n").
