Black Hand assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand in an attempt to release Bosnia and Herzegovina from Austria-Hungary and make a Yugoslav state. As a result of the Ferdinand assassination, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, and world war I started.
