Hi Taryn,

 

I think the major answer you are looking for here is oil.  Canada has the third-largest known oil reserves in the world, behind only Saudi Arabia and Venezuela.  The United States imports more than twice as much oil from Canada as it does from any other country.  

 

The question of what that means is more tricky.  For one thing, it means that Canada and the US like to be very good friends.  Also, Canada tends to take on peacekeeping roles around the world.  It's a very idealistic country.  Perhaps that is because they are bringing in quite a bit of money and don't have to spend time fighting anybody, so they can afford to spend time trying to solve world problems.
