If the length of a rectangle field is 6 feet less than four times it’s width and the perimeter is 128 feet what is the length of a rectangular field

Eq 1) L = 4W - 6

 

P = 2(L + W) = 128 ft

 

Substitute Eq 1 into the perimeter equation, you get

 

2(4W - 6 + W) = 128

 

2(5W - 6) = 128

 

10W - 12 = 128

 

10W = 140

 

W = 140 / 10 = 14 ft

 

Substitute W = 14 into Eq 1) and solve for L.

 

L = 4W - 6

 

   = 4(14) - 6

 

   = 56 - 6 = 50 ft
