Use y = 2x - 5 and y = -x + 3 as your example.

2x-5 = -x + 3

 

3x - 5 = 3

 

3x = 8

 

x = 8/3  = 2 and 2/3 = 2.6

 

because the intersection point does not land flush on the graph paper

it is hard to tell EXACTLY where the lines meet.
