Was Lake Rotorua a volcano or not?

Hi, so you got the answer I tried that but what was your answer, I just want to see if thats the same and I really need help as I'm not that good at this stuff please :)

The lake is not a volcano! The lake is formed in the crater of an extinct (?) volcano that last erupted some 240,000 years ago.
