How many ways can you make change for a dollar using nickels, dimes, and/or quarters?

Guess what? I don't know an easy way either!

Here is my suggestion.

Make a sort of a spreadsheet; use the computer if you have access.

Start with the quarters.

4 quarters

3 quarters, 5 nickels

                 2 dimes and a nickel

                 1 dime and 2 nickels

2 quarters, 10 nickels

                 5 dimes

                 8 nickels and 2 dimes

 

Now just keep going...eventually you will exhaust the quarters.  Then start with dimes and nickels alone.  Exhaust the combinations with dimes and then, last but not least 20 nickels.

 

I am sorry I can't be more help, but I know of no easier way.
