It is easier to visualize if we think of fractions as division. An example would be 360/1 means the same thing as 360 divided by 1 to equal 360.
Let’s start by making all of the numbers fractions.
360 is the same as or equals 360/1
So, if we want to see what the groups of people are, we would use multiplication and simplification
360/1 x 1/3 (number of men) = 360/3 simplified to 120/1 or 120
360/1 x 3/10 (number of women) = 1080/10 simplified to 108/1 or 108
If we add the number of men and women together, we can use subtraction to determine the number of children.
120 + 108 = 228
360 (total people) – 228 (number of men and women combined) = 132
