Don't panic, Blub! The rule is simpler than you think:
1) If the denominator has a higher degree than the numerator, the asymptote is Y = 0, whether the numerator has variables or not (their absence makes the degree 0).
2) If they have the same degree, you divide the coefficients of the leading terms and reduce if necessary. The fraction you make is the answer.
3) If the numerator is higher than denominator, you have no HA.
