You need to subtract 2 1/6 from 5 1/4
First convert the mixed numbers to improper fractions: 21/4 - 13/6
The common denominator is 12 so the subtraction becomes (63 - 26)/12 = 37/12
1/3 of the distance from 13/6 to 21/4 is (1/3)*37/12 = 37/36
The number that is 1/3 of the way then is 13/6 + 37/36 = 78/36 + 37/36 = 115/36 which is in lowest terms and as a mixed number is 108 7/36
