Each elephant passed the same 2 monkeys so, 2 monkeys
2 parrots
1 + 6 + 2 + 2 = 11

By the way, there could be 11, 15, 19, 23, 27, or 31 animals, depending on how many elephants (if any) saw different monkeys.

While you are correct, as I was fully aware when I posted the answer, I would bet my monthly mortgage that the answer the teacher is looking for is 11. The most we can he certain of is "at least eleven."

This question was posed to me and how I interpreted it to be as such. 1 rabbit going to the river he was 6 elephants. The 6 elephants saw 2 monkeys each going toward the river each monkey was holding a parrot. How many animals are going TOWARD the river. 12 monkeys and 12 parrots for a total of 24. only because the rabbit was going to the river. The equation never said the elephants were going to the river or toward it. Of course I assumed that each elephant saw 2 different monkeys. The monkeys were the only animals going TOWARD the river. So I guess there could very well be multiple answers.

however the correct answer, without assumptions, is 4. 2 monkeys, 2 parrots. the rabbit may or may not be going toward the river. The Rabbit only saw elephants, but we don't know which way they are headed or even if they are moving. Lastly, it doesn't say anything about the Elephants seeing different monkeys. Based on what we KNOW. 2 monkeys, 2 Parrots.
