Hi Candi--
I'm guessing that "illusion of isolation" means that someone (or a group of people) may feel like they are alone, or lonely, or hidden, but that they really aren't. Their feeling of isolation (being alone) is just an illusion (a trick or something else fake).
But if you post the actual passage, we might be able to come up with a more complete answer.
