So lets set this up:

You walk 3.8 ^miles/_hour (⁴/₅ is the same as 0.8)

You walk for 2.75 hours (45 minutes is the same as 3/4 of an hour, and that converts to 0.75)

 

So our problem looks like:

3.8 mi/hr * 2.75 hr

Hours cancel out:

3.8 mi * 2.75

 

Now to multiply:

  2.75

  *3.8

  2200

+825

---------

10.450 miles
