Question related to the perimeter and area of a concentric circle

Two concentric circles have the radii 12cm and8.5cm respectively. Find the area of the space enclosed by the two circles.

Since one circle is contained within the other, the area enclosed within the two circles is
merely the area of the larger circle.  This means a radius of 12cm
 
Area = πr2 = 122π = 144π cm2

If you need the area of space that is enclosed by BOTH circles then that is the
area of the smaller circle:  A = 82π = 64π
