Lymph nodes contain a large number of lymphocytes as well as other disease-fighting cells. Lymph nodes are found along lymphatic vessels and they act as filters for the lymph that flows through them. Pathogens are carried by the lymph and get caught in the lymph nodes, where the lymphocytes and other cells can destroy them and keep them from spreading throughout the body.
