What is the answer to 2 + 2 X 4

there is an Instagram argument - most people say the answer is 10 - but some people say it is 16.   Stating if the problem was stated as 2 + (2 x 4) the answer would then be 10 by doing the multiplication first.  BUT as stated without parenthesis would you do the addition first giving you 4 and THEN multiply 4 x 4 giving the answer of 16.   Which is correct

So basically assume that the parenthesis are there?

No. PEMDAS. Parentheses, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction. In that order

It’s not multiplication then division, it’s whatever comes first left to right. This was taught around 5-6th grade. Do not assume there are parenthesis anywhere, there isn’t. If parenthesis was put around 2+2 like (2+2)*4 it would be 2+2=4, 4*4=16. If parenthesis was around 2*4, it still comes out to 2+8=10.

When you get to physics PEMDAS and BODMAS are viod and even when not in that realm they are both broke still. If it don't work it don't work. Period. Example : 1 – 2 + 4 --------------------------------------- In a question of 2+2x4 BODMAS applys....Now of it were wrote out 2+2x4=16, 16 would be the correct awnser as those operations don't count for equations. Only expressions.
