"There is 36 more small dogs (s) than large dogs (l)." --> s - l = 36 -- (1) "There are 49 dogs entered in the dog show." ----> s + l = 49 ----(2) Solve for s (no. of small dogs) = 42.5 (technically not correct)08/16/19

Does the problem not just tell you the number of small dogs? I do not understand the complication. If you have 49 total things and 36 of those things are smaller and we need to know how many of the things are smaller is it not simply the 36 smaller things? OMG that was a mouthful. 49-36=13. So 36 small things this the remaining are the large things. I wish someone could explain why in the first equation he says that x+small dogs =small dogs.02/29/20
