Well in questions 6(1-5v)=54 8(4K-4)=-5k -32 I dont know when to multiply or divide

Well in questions -6(1-5v)=54 You divide the 54 by -6. But in equation 8(4K-4)=-5k -32 You multiply the (4K-4) I was wondering if you could tell me how you know when to multiply or when to divide

 

 

 

I dont know when to divide or to multipy could you please explain

-6(1-5v) = 54

Divide both sides by -6

1-5v = 54/(-6)

1 - 5v = -9

subtract 1 from both sides

-5v = -9-1

-5v  = -10

divide both sides by -5

v = -10/(-5)

v = 2

 

8(4k-4) = -5k - 32

If there was not a -5k on the right side of the

equal sign we would start by dividing out the 8.

In this case, we need to distribute the 8 to 

clear the parenthesis, then add and subtract 

terms to get all k values on one side and all

constants on the other.

 

Clear the parenthesis by distributing the 8.

8(4k) + 8(-4) = -5k - 32

32k - 32 = -5k - 32

add 5k to both sides

37k - 32 = -32

add 32 to both sides

37k = 0

k = 0
