A manufacturer makes rectangular table tops measuring 30 cm by 36 cm. He wants to make a table top that has 3 times the area of the ones he now makes, by adding the same number of centimeters to both the length and the width. Find the dimensions of the table tops he should manufacture.

The ratio of the areas is as the square of the linear ratio.

3 is the square of the linear ratio. Therefore the linear dimensions should be multiplied by √3.
