Quesntion- Parallel sides of a trapezium shaped field are 4√2 m and 228 m. The cost of planting grass in the field at the rate of 57 paise m square is ₹260. Find the distance between the two parallel sides of the trapezium.

260 / 0.57 = 456.14  <--- is the area

 

 

A = 1/2*(top + bottom) * height <--- formula for area of the trapezoid

 

456.14 = 1/2*(4*sqrt(2) + 228) * height  <---- top=4*sqrt(2) and bottom=228

 

456.14 = (2*sqrt(2) + 114)*height  <--- distributes 1/2

 

height = 456.14/(2*sqrt(2) +114)

 

         = 456( 2*Sqrt(2) - 114) / (8 - 12996)  <--- rationalizes the denominator

 

        = 3.90315
