1. 1️⃣ you cannot use Spanish direct object pronouns (DOP) on their own without a verb or after a preposition such as a or de.
2. 2️⃣ DOP usually comes BEFORE the verb.

you (form.s., male), him, it (masculine) - lo

you (form.s. female), her, it (feminine) - la

us - nos

you (fam.pl.) - os

you (form.pl., males, males and females) them (males, males and females) - los

you (form.pl., females), them (females) - las

 

As for how you use them, please look at the following examples:

 

Yo los veo en el centro comercial. (I see them at the mall.)

Yo los quiero ver en el centro comercial. (I want to see them at the mall. This emphasizes that I want to see them and nobody else.)

Yo quiero verlos en el centro comercial. (I want to see them at the mall. There is no emphasis.)

 

Your question is ¿Vas a llamar a Rita? (Are you going to call Rita?)

 

The answer is: Yo la voy a llamar. (I am going to call her. This emphasizes that I am going to call her and nobody else.)
