Chloe and her friends are going on a picnic. A sandwich is 5 times the cost of a cookie. A bag of chips is twice as expensive as a cookie. The girls buy 3 of each item and they spend $12. How much did each item cost?

P = 2C

 

3(S+P+C) = 12 ---> S+P+C = 4

 

                               5C + 2C + C = 4

 

                               8C = 4

 

                               C = $4/8 = $1/2 = 50 cents

 

Cookie costs 50 cents.

Sandwich costs $2.50.

Chips cost $1.00
