A pineapple is 7 times as heavy as an orange.The pineapple also weighs 870 grams more than the orange.

What is the total weight in gram for the pineapple and orange?

P is the weight of the pineapple

O is the weight of the orange

 

P = 7O

 

P = O + 870

 

7O = O + 870

 

6O = 870

 

O = 870/6 = 145

 

The orange weights 145 grams.

The pineapple is 145 + 870 = 1015 grams

 

Note that 145 x 7 = 1015
