peter has tree 5 yards long rope. he wants to cut pieces that are 24 inches long from the ropes. what is the greatest numer 24 inch pieces he can cut out from three ropes?

1 yard = 36 inches

5 yards = 180 inches

 

 

For each rope,

 

24 * 5 = 120

24 * 6 = 146

24 * 7 = 168

24 * 8 = 192

 

He can cut a maximum number of 7 pieces of 24 inches from each rope.  Since he has 3 ropes of 180 inches, the greatest number of 24 inches he can cut are
