x + y = 24       x = 24 - y

.27x + .33y = 6.84     Multiply both sides of the equation by 100 to remove the decimal points.

27x + 33y = 684

27(24 - y) + 33y = 684

648 - 27y + 33y = 684

6y =36

y = 6

x = 24 - y = 24 - 6

x = 18
