If it remains at rest the net force on it must be zero.

Dear Arturo,

One (1) Newton, directed straight down.

F = ma, i.e., force equals mass times acceleration.

Wt = mg, i.e., weight equals mass times gravity.

In this case acceleration is the same as gravity. 

If the apple is not in motion, there are no other forces, except for the normal force holding up the apple.

F(N) = F(g) x cos Theta

So the Force due to gravity is going straight down, and the normal force is going straight up.
