     x     =  0.061 ·  60

    x      =  3.66

6.1% of a number is the same 0.061 times the number.

 

6.1% of 60 is

 

0.061 x 60 = 3.66%

 

You can also work percentage problems as proportions:

 

6.1 is to 100 as x is to 60.

 

6.1/100 = x/60

 

x = 60(6.1/100) = 3.66%
