I am needing help figuring out percents, may have several questions.

My question is How do I convert 2 and 4/5 to a percent

Hi Kristin,

 

What you want to do is set up a whole fraction by multiplying the denominator (5) by 2 = 10, and then adding the numerator (4) = 14. You then put 14 as the numerator and keep 5 as the denominator. You then can set up the equation used to find percentage. 14/5 = x/100.

 

Cross multiplying, you end up with 1400 = 5x.

 

Dividing both sides by 5, solving for x gives you 280. Therefore x = 280 and your answer is 280%

2 is 200%.  We must add this to the result of 4/5.

Let's take 4/5 and multiply the top number (numerator) by 20, while multiplying the bottom number (denominator) by 20...

[(4)(20)]/[(5)(20)]

80/100

80%

80%+200%=280%
