Hi Mott from Naples, FL...hope you had a great week at school.
Again, to clarify, agreeing with Arturo, the Hawaiian Island were never the property or territory of Spain. However, there is some unsubstantiated recording of Spanish ships landing on 'several Hawaiian Island' as they sailed from Mexico to the Philippines(which was Spanish territory) with silver to trade with China and other Far East kingdoms. This was probably 100 years (1592) after Columbus landed on Hispaniola. It was the British captian James Cook, who landed and documented the Hawaiian encounters in 1778. Though he landed there, Britain didn't claim ownership nor considering it its territory. The Native population, which were sovereign kingdoms, though troubled and in turmoil, fighting for leadership was invaded by the US and as was being more economical and commercially important to the US, was forcefully overthrown by business owners who didn't want Native Hawaiians governing their own country. Another example of the US Government acting as foreign invaders/aggressors of a sovereign government/kingdom.
