People who emigrated away from Constantinople helped revive Greek and Roman culture throughout Europe. This helped cause the advancement during the Renaissance in science and humanism.
Over the years the Roman Empire, Ottoman Empire, and Byzantine Empire fought over Constantinople to be theirs and name it the capital city. Controlling Constantinople was thought to unify law and order throughout your empire. Constantinople is in between Europe and Asia. Controlling Constantinople allows your empire to increase in territory and size.
