What was the meaning of the Domino Theory?

In the context of the Cold War, it referred to allowing a country to fall under communist control.  Some leaders of the West believed that if one country fell, communist insurgencies would spread to its neighbors, any they too would fall.  This was particularly applied to countries of Southeast Asia.  That was the domino theory:  One country falls to the communists, and its neighbors would fall in turn.
