Hi Roman:
In this problem you first clear the parenthesis by multiplying through
the numbers on the outside. Then combine any like terms. Then, you
need to get all terms with the variable on one side of the equal sign and
the rest on the other side:
0.3(12x - 16) = 0.4(12 - 3x)
clear the parenthesis
0.3(12x) + 0.3(-16) = 0.4(12) + 0.4(-3x)
3.6x - 4.8 = 4.8 - 1.2x
add 1.2x to both sides
4.8x - 4.8 = 4.8
add 4.8 to both sides
4.8x = 9.6
divide both sides by 4.8
x = 2
