Hi Austin. 'Natural rights' were written about by John Locke, who stated that all people are born with rights (given by nature, god, etc) even in the absence of stated laws, and that societies only need laws because some people act to infringe on the rights of others. The rights included life, liberty, and property, which is echoed in the Declaration of Independence's "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."
The declaration, in turn, was the announcement to King George, and the rest of the world, that we here in the colonies were no longer going to stand for the trampling of our natural rights by Britain, and that we now considered ourselves a new, free nation.
King got mad, tried to stop us, you know the rest!
