I'm really stuck on this problem. I just need to know how to set up the equation to figure it out.

distance travelled by both car = x

 

speed of second car = x/ 5

 

speed of second car = x/4

 

x/5 + 13  = x/4

 

(65 + x ) / 5 = x/4

4(65+x) = 5x

260 +4x =5x

260 =x

 

speed of second car = 260/5 = 52mph

speed of first car =52+13=65 mph

d_slower = r5

The distances are equal

4(r + 13) = 5r
