The student was using Set Builder notation and the / should have been the vertical separation bar.
Set A is all points such that x ≥2, and set B > 6.
The union of these sets is therefore all x ≥ 2.
The intersection of these sets is x > 6 because intersection means 'must be points found in both A AND B.
