actually you don't even need to go that far
6(y+3) = 2(x+9)
1. first simplifiy
6*y + 6*3 = 2*x + 2*9
6y + 18 = 2x + 18
2. subtract 18 from both sides, and actually the 18s cancel out
6y = 2x
you can stop there
ration is
6:2 or 6y:2x or 6:2 given x:y
