actually you don't even need to go that far

6(y+3) = 2(x+9)

1. first simplifiy

6*y + 6*3 = 2*x + 2*9

6y + 18 = 2x + 18

2. subtract 18 from both sides, and actually the 18s cancel out

6y = 2x

you can stop there

ration is

6:2 or 6y:2x or 6:2 given x:y
