asked 05/05/17How is Matisse like Manet? Pollock like van Gogh?
How is the 20th Century artist connected to the earlier work? Compare to show how the 20th century work has its roots in the earlier work and how it advances what the earlier work accomplished and furthers the story of art. Maybe cite specific works by these artists.

I would explore what these artists have in common.
For example van Gogh was considered to be an Expressionistic artist, because of his desire to place his emotions into his works and therefore having his audience react with similar emotions.
Pollock was an Abstract Expressionist and in the process of painting itself is where his emotions were being utilized. Again with the main purpose of the viewer having a shared emotional response with how the artist felt during the time of creating the work.
Manet ( or are you thinking of Monet who would match better in my opinion) especially his later work influenced by his younger colleagues' (The Impressionists) work dealt with color and the placement of colors. Matisse dealt with color as well in an even more intense and direct way. See Matisse's work The Joy of Life.
