Mike says that if he doubles each dimension of any rectangular prism, the surface area also doubles. Is Mike correct? Give an example to support your answer.

the surface area goes up by 2*2 or 4

 

Think of a 1x1x1 cube

Since it is symmetric the surface area is 1x1*2 +1x1*2 +1x1*2 or 6 units

 

Make each dimension 2 (doubling it) and the surface area becomes 2x2x2 + 2x2x2 + 2x2x2 or 24 which is 4 times first prism.
