y = x² - 2x - 3   Complete the square and put into vertex format

 

y = (x² -2x +1) -3 -1

 

y = (x-1)² -4

 

The vertex is at (1, -4)  the y intercept is (0, -3) and the x intercepts are at (-1,0) AND (3,0)
